Freight brokerage moves $80 billion a year in the U.S. alone. It’s the people who connect companies that need to ship products with the trucks that move them. It’s sales. It’s relationships. It’s solving real problems for real businesses.
It’s also one of the few industries where you can start with zero experience, build a book of business that’s yours, and turn it into a long career. The reps making the most money in freight today didn’t come from a logistics background; they came in willing to learn, work hard, and put in the reps.
If you’re early in your career and looking for an industry with real upside, this is one of the best-kept secrets out there.
Why Fide
- We’re family-owned and operated
- We’re not trying to be the biggest, we’re trying to be the best
- We hire people we want to develop and invest in
- We protect our culture and our people
- We don’t supply jobs. We supply careers.
Why you should apply
- You want a direct correlation between effort and earnings
- You want to learn a real skill that pays for decades
- You want to be part of a team that supports each other
- You want a career, not a job
- You want a path that comes with growth and promotions
What we actually need from you
You don’t need experience. You don’t need a degree. Here’s what we do need:
- You can have a real conversation on the phone. This is a sales job. You’ll be talking to people every day.
- You’re willing to learn an entire industry from scratch. We’ll teach you. You have to show up ready to absorb.
- You’ll take coaching. Our best people are the ones who hear feedback and use it.
- You want a career, not a 90-day stint. We hire slow because we’re building something long-term. Come in with that mindset.
If those four things describe you, you’re qualified to apply. Past that, we’ll teach you the rest.
About the role
You’ll be a Business Development Rep, finding companies that need to ship freight and helping them get it moved. You’ll learn how to prospect, how to have sales conversations, how to build relationships, and how to manage a book of business that’s yours.
This is an entry-level role with a real career path. Reps at Fide get promoted on merit, not tenure. If you’re good, you’ll move up. If you’re great, you’ll move up fast.
Your first 90 days
First 30:
- Get trained on the industry and Fide Freight’s systems
- Learn how to qualify, source, and engage cold leads through outbound prospecting
- Start making outbound customer calls to find new business
- Shadow fellow sales team members
- Attend weekly trainings to continuously learn and grow
By 60 days:
- Strengthen your industry knowledge and sales skills through 1:1s
- Understand how to recognize and uncover larger opportunities
- Have a solid grasp of Fide’s systems and the full sales cycle
By 90 days:
- Handle operational tasks independently
- Turn cold leads into freight-moving clients
- Be ready to operate as a full-on sales rep
What the day-to-day actually looks like
You’ll be in our Grand Rapids office, at a desk, with the team. Most of your day is on the phone; making calls, having conversations, and building your pipeline. Some of it is research, planning, and learning. Some of it is training and shadowing.
It’s a phone job. If that doesn’t excite you, this isn’t the role.
You’ll be successful here if:
- You want to win all the time and find motivation in temporary setbacks
- You don’t settle, you find ways to overachieve and keep improving
- Your ability to learn is off the charts and you’re hungry for more
- You love connecting with people – online, on the phone, and face-to-face
Compensation
- $45,000 base salary during the 90-day training period
- $50,000 base salary starting day 91
- Real career progression – base salary grows with promotions and tenure
Benefits (after 90 days)
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) matching
- Paid time off
- Flexible schedule
- Professional development support
- Wellness stipend (gym, books, music memberships)
- Company-paid trade shows, networking events, and travel
- Referral program
Location
- In-person at our Grand Rapids, MI headquarters
- This is a desk job. You’ll be in the office every day with the team. Working in-person is part of how we develop people. You can’t learn this craft well from home.
